Exceptional Children
Two Rivers Community School is committed to helping each child to grow and thrive with regards to academics and social-emotional learning. The goal of the Exceptional Children (EC) Program is to locate, identify, and evaluate children with disabilities who are in need of special education services. Two Rivers implements the Child Find process to:
locate children and youth ages birth through 21 with disabilities who are in need of special education and related services.
inform parents and/or guardians of the services available from their local school system and other state and community agencies.
If you believe a child may be eligible for special education services under IDEA, contact the school director, your child’s teacher, or the special education office.
If You are new to Two Rivers and your student has an IEP
For out of state students: Once your child’s records have been shared with school staff, you will be invited to a meeting to discuss comparable services or services similar to your child’s most recent IEP. During the meeting, school staff will describe the process for developing a North Carolina IEP.
For instate students: School staff will begin implementing your child’s current NC IEP when school starts. You will be invited to a meeting to review the IEP and potentially revise it. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss your child’s transition to a new school to determine if any adjustments to services and supports are necessary.
The mission of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Exceptional Children Division is to ensure that students with disabilities develop intellectually, physically, emotionally, and vocationally through the provision of an appropriate individualized program in the least restrictive environment.
