After School Enrichment
It's not your average After school program...
Two Rivers Community School's After School Enrichment Program offers semi-structured activities for grades K-8. It operates Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 3:20 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday 1:20 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
In addition to having an opportunity to work on class assignments, children enjoy playing with legos, outside games, drawing, crafts, photography, karaoke, computer lab time, and water color painting. Realizing that it can be difficult to learn in a crowd, among others with different needs and backgrounds, we also offer communication circles for grades K-3 which are premised on character building. In these conversations, children discuss anger, sadness, happiness, and cooperation to develop their social and emotional learning skills. Additionally, students are encouraged to take deep breaths, nap, and stretch to help with stress when needed.
Students also have opportunities to get to know community members. Sara Pilson from Appalachian State University (ASU), for instance, offered her expertise and supplies for children to make their own terrariums in September. ASU interns also provide interactive lessons for the after school students. We host an "Ecology and Arts" program for kindergartners in the fall. This program is sponsored by Mel Falck from the Reich College of Education at ASU. We invite other community members interested in sharing their talents with us to talk with coordinator, Nicole Fynn, at 828-434-6178 or at email@example.com.
AFTER SCHOOL RESOURCES
Fitness Club is led by Coach Pack during after school on Tuesday. This program is separate from our After School Enrichment Program. It is for students in 5th to 8th grade. To participate students must speak with Coach Pack. Here's a great video filmed, produced, and edited by students in Fitness Club.
