7th Graders Launch Weather Balloon

balloon3The 7th graders hosted a school weather balloon launch on Wednesday, April 24th.

The launch was a part of the 7th grade’s science studies on weather, climate and sustainability. A radio antenna on the school grounds received real-time data from a sensor attached to the balloon. Read the rest of this entry »

Teacher Elissa Brown Brings Biofuel Curriculum to TRCS

Middle School science teacher Elissa Brown attended a professional development workshop in Raleigh last week to be trained in an innovative pilot biofuels curriculum. Developed by N.C. State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as well as 4-H, the Biofuels Curriculum Project aims to develop an experiential and engaging middle school science curriculum. 4th Graders Journey into the Wild

Part of the TRCS expeditionary learning curriculum includes a partnership with Buffalo Cove Outdoor Education Center. Buffalo Cove is a wilderness camp that helps children explore and connect with the natural world. Each year TRCS sends its 3rd-8th grade students on overnight trips to the facility.
