K-2 students perform Dinosaurumpus!

Dinosaurumput

Performing a musical version of Dinosaurumpus and under the direction of Vanessa Van Valin, students in K-2 were the opening act for AURA (Artists United Reaching out for Academics) on May 5, 2012.Students combined music, art, and drama in their interpretation of the book written by Tony Mitten and illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees. AURA is an annual fundraiser for Two Rivers and proceeds benefit the school’s arts programming. The event is a special evening of performing arts showcasing the talents of our local artists, musicians, dancers, and poets. In addition to Dinosaurumpus, this year’s performers included EYA! Afrolachian Drum and Dance Troupe, the Mountain Laurels, Spring House Choir, Travis Boswell, and ASU Dance Alumni and Faculty. Earlier in the year, EYA! Afrolachian Drum and Dance Troupe spent a week at TRCS providing workshops for students. The workshops taught students African instruments, dance, and storytelling. EYA! was able to visit Two Rivers using funds raised through AURA.
