Part of the culture at Two Rivers is parental involvement. Each family volunteers every month at the school by serving on the PTO, planning celebrations, counting box tops, driving for field trips, chairing committees, etc. On Saturday, May 19, parent and volunteer organizer, Beth Darnell, hosted the spring Work Day at the school. Over 30 parents and students joined together to complete nearly 30 projects. At the end of the day the school had fresh paint, new skirting around classrooms, an organized recycling area, clean windows, fresh mulch, a clean bus, gutters, new plants, bookshelves, cork boards, a new flag pole, and various repairs across the campus.
The type of community and volunteerism that is promoted at Two Rivers allows families to take ownership of the school. Parents help make difficult budget decisions, create fundraising opportunities, develop marketing strategies, and assist with office duties. At other schools these responsibilities are delegated to administrators. Parents are the administrators at Two Rivers as they take on significant roles in shaping their children’s educations.
